SPIA ASIA 2019

I. Asian Award Categories

  • Nominations shall be accepted from the SPIA Asia judging panel, federation, association, company, agency, agents, team and/or individual representing the sportsman-nominee
  • The Awards Committee shall select from the nominations which shall then conduct committee voting on the bases of set criteria.

Evaluation Criteria:

  • The sportsman-nominee must have officially represented any of the Asian countries and had exemplary campaigns or performance in national/regional/international sporting competitions during the eligibility period.
  • International ranking, performance in international competitions such as World championships, Asian Championships, Award recognitions from international and national federations and others are likewise considered in the evaluation.
  • Athlete may not be involved in or being liked to any doping, or un-sportsman like conduct in the past
  • Judges shall also make reference to the nominee’s commercial and media value and sports rankings released by the respective federation, organizations and/or other credible bodies
  • Demonstrate a key moment, impact or achievement, significant in 2018/19 to be considered as a Top 10 contender for SPIA Asia 2019

  • The sport team must come from any Asian countries which had exemplary campaigns or performances in national/regional/international sporting competitions during the eligibility period.
  • International ranking, performance in international competitions such as World championships, Asian Championships, Award recognitions from international and national federations and others are likewise considered in the evaluation.
  • Members of the team /coaching staff may not be involved in or being liked to any doping, or un-sportsman like conduct in the past
  • Judges shall also make reference to the team’s commercial and media value and sports ranking made by the respective federation, organizations and/or other credible bodies
  • Demonstrate a key moment, impact or achievement, significant in 2018/19 to be considered as a Top 10 contender for SPIA Asia 2019.
  • Entries shall be accepted from company, agency, team or organization that has delivered standout activations for a brand associated with sports. The activations happened within the SPIA Asia 2019 eligibility.

Evaluation Criteria:

  • Brand activation excels in terms of originality, execution, timing, creativity, innovation or integration multiple marketing method to captivate its target audience
  • Implementation of measurement and evaluation system to ensure attainment of brand activation’s KPIs
  • Evidence that the campaign generated significant brand awareness and showed strong growth and financial returns against stated objectives
  • Demonstrate a key moment, impact or achievement, significant to be considered as a Top 10 contender for SPIA Asia 2019
  • This category is open to any private or public companies or entities developing and/or using a state-of-the-art technology designed for any sporting activities for purposes of improving, enhancing the sports, its organizers, officials, team, players, participants and spectators’ experiences.
  • Sports Technology include but not limited to the following: Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, sports equipment, officiating support, sensor tools, timing systems, RFID chips, data analytics, equipment development, wearables, fan engagement, software, apps and other similar technology

Evaluation Criteria:

  • The entrant must be able to show that the sports which used technology happened in any of the Asian countries within the eligibility period
  • The ability of the technology to improve & enhance the sports and its organizers, officials, teams, players/athletes, participants and spectators’ experiences.
  • The entrant must be able to show significant proof or outcome that the use of technology significantly achieved its set objectives or KPIs
  • Demonstrate a key moment, impact or achievement, significant to be considered as a Top 10 contender for SPIA Asia 2019
  • Entries are accepted from private or public organizations, associations, federations, rights holders, organizers and other entities which organize, own or represent sporting events in Asian countries

Evaluation Criteria:

  • The entrants should provide strong information and/or history, proof of achievement of event’s objectives and indicators of success which positioned Asia as a sporting destination and captured the hearts and minds of the Asian sporting community.
  • Event must be ticketed and have been held for the past 3 years in Asia;
  • The event must be broadcasted internationally (live/delayed/digitally)
  • The event must have a hospitality offering
  • The event must have commercial partnership and marketing programs, show data on spectators & participant numbers, viewership, social media engagement, media coverage and others.
  • This category is open to any private or public companies or entities developing and/or operating digital platforms for purposes of informing, inspiring and enabling the Asian community to participate, view and engage in sporting activities.
  • Digital platform includes the following: Apps, OTT platforms, websites, live streaming platforms, social media platforms, news portals and others.

Evaluation Criteria:

  • The ability of the platform to communicate & engage with the target market/user-groups.
  • Seamless user experience
  • What the organization has done to market the digital platform; i.e. push notifications; beacon technology; digital marketing; social media program; sports marketing and others.

(Nomination based conducted by the Mass Participation Asia)

  • Entries are accepted from individuals, private or public companies or entities which have directly or indirectly invested in a sport, team, individual or event in Asia. The investment must have been conducted or managed directly by the rights holder, brand or the lead agency

Evaluation Criteria:

  • Investment must have positively supported the sponsorship objectives based on financial support, marketing, brand engagement, promotion and/or sales.
  • Sponsorship amount must be at least $500,000
  • Demonstrate a key moment or achievement, significant to be considered as a Top 10 contender for SPIA Asia 2019
  • Entries are accepted from private or public companies or entities which have organized an event/campaign underpinned by a fully integrated digital and offline marketing campaign to drive demand for the event.

Evaluation Criteria:

  • Event or campaign needs to deliver across the following platforms: broadcast, print, digital against set marketing objectives across sales, promotions, brand engagement, participation, viewership and/or attendance.
  • Sporting event and marketing campaign should be delivered in Asia
  • Campaign needs to have ATL and BTL marketing elements
  • Demonstrate a key moment or achievement, significant to be considered as a Top 10 contender for SPIA Asia 2018
  • Entries are accepted from private or public companies or entities, profit and non-profit, registered or permitted to conduct an initiative which use sports as a medium for promoting Corporate Social Responsibility.

Evaluation criteria:

  • Must have clear CSR objectives based on community impact, grassroots development, brand image, participation, fund raising, media exposure, and other social causes.
  • Must have positively impacted the CSR’s objectives of the initiatives based on community impact, grassroots development, brand image, participation, fund raising, media exposure, and other social causes locally and regionally.
  • Demonstrate a key moment or achievement, significant to be considered as a Top 10 contender for SPIA Asia 2019
  • Entries are accepted from all sports marketing agencies worthy of recognition as the best performing agency in Asia. Judging criteria include success indicators such as but not limited to the following: Client retention, financial performance, staff development and recruitment

Evaluation criteria

  • The sports marketing agency must have a minimum of 15 full-time staff, been in existence for at least 3 years and have footprints (clients/activities) in at least 5 countries in Asia
  • The agency’s business mix may include sponsorship sales, right management, media sales, event management and event marketing
  • Agency must have key achievements/ milestones reached
  • Demonstrate a key moment or achievement, significant to be considered as a Top 10 contender for SPIA Asia 2019
  • Entries are accepted from public or private companies or entities which are currently organizing, owning and representing a youth program that has contributed to the talent development from grassroots sports and the engagement of youth (aged 6 to 17 Y/O) in sporting activities in Asia.

Evaluation Criteria

  • Demonstrates the Sporting philosophy across its unique training methods with an elite pathway for talent development with an established structure, dedicated training facilities, licensed coaches, etc…
  • It must be a youth sports program in existence for at least 3 years
  • It can be for a single or multi-sport across all genders and age groups
  • Demonstrate a key moment or achievement, significant to be considered as a Top 10 contender for SPIA Asia 2019
  • Entries shall be accepted from rightsholder, company, brand, agency, team or organization that efficiently and effectively used, adopted and/or integrated influencer marketing campaigns.
  • The campaign has an association with sports. Examples are: Engaging sports personality/ies as influencer/s; Adopts certain sports as a campaign platform for any brands, events, facilities, etc..; campaign is for a specific sporting brands, facilities, events;

Evaluation Criteria:

  • The campaign is leveraging the reach of an existing influencer who has built a large following and strong brand reputation in a particular niche to support brand, endorse product, or co-create content, with the intent to increase brand awareness and drive sales.
  • Judges will not necessarily reward the number of channels involved, but the influence and smart execution of the campaign that has demonstrated the power of the channel against and/ or in conjunction with the wider digital mix
  • The campaign shall show the attainment of objectives set (KPIs, ROI, and other key parameters) such as engagement, call to action, reach, conversion into sales, etc.
  • The campaign must demonstrate a key moment, impact or achievement, significant to be considered as a Top 10 contender for SPIA Asia 2019
  • Entries are accepted from all private and public entities which position their city/province/country/location as a sports tourism destination.

Evaluation Criteria:

  • The campaign must outline its objective/KPIs and describe how sports is integrated to promote tourism and attract both local and international guests/tourists
  • Conducts marketing/promotional strategies across TV, Digital, Print media
  • Must have specific sports tourism offerings/programs with high level of innovation in delivering visitors’ experiences for participants and spectators
  • Must be hosting major local/international events across mass participation or individual sports/multi-sport events and others.
  • Demonstrate a key moment or achievement, significant to be considered as a Top 10 contender for SPIA Asia 2019
  • Entries shall be accepted from private or public organizations, associations, rights holders, organizers, agencies, and other entities which organize, own, represent a sporting event in Asian countries within the 2019 SPIA Asia eligibility period

Evaluation Criteria:

  • Entrant should describe the campaign as to how (strategies), when (Match or non-match day), where (on or off-site) and purposes of its delivery (Eg. To host fans, connect fans, enhance the live experience, brings fans closer to live action, etc…);
  • Entrant should outline the campaign objectives/KPIs and show quantifiable proofs of its attainment in terms of reach, engagement, call to action, conversions into sales,
  • Demonstrate a key moment or achievement, significant to be considered as a Top 10 contender for SPIA Asia 2019
  • Entries are accepted from private or public entities which have directly organized or being part of the delivery of the event which would commonly be described as a “Amateur Sports Competition or League” related to a specific sports or mixed sports and may consist of integrated or series of events under a specific program
  • The amateur sports competition or league aims to develop a specific sport or sports through series of events with at least 1,000 collective adult participants.

Evaluation Criteria:

  • Entry must relate to an amateur sports competition or league staged during the SPIA Asia eligibility period within the eligible countries.
  • Amateur sports competition or league must show data, statistics, analytics on spectator /participant numbers, social media engagement, media coverage and others.
  • The amateur sports competition or league must be clearly structured across registration, safety and security, marketing and PR, brand activation and others.
  • Demonstrate a key moment or achievement, significant to be considered as a Top 10 contender for SPIA Asia 2019.

II. Local (Philippines) Award Categories (4)

  • Entries are accepted from public and private entities which organize, own or represent a sporting event in the Philippines;

Evaluation Criteria:

  • Entry shall be able demonstrate remarkable perception and experiences of spectators attending the event live within the SPIA Asia eligibility period;
  • Remarkable perception and experiences can be from customer services, facilities available, costing, hospitality offerings, activations, combinations of those mentioned, etc…
  • Judges will look for proof of key achievements and other success factors which demonstrate remarkable live experience in a sporting event
  • Demonstrate a key moment or achievement, significant to be considered as a Top 10 contender for SPIA Asia 2019
  • Entries are accepted from public or private companies or entities which are currently organizing, owning and representing a youth program that has contributed to the talent development from grassroots sports and the engagement of youth (aged 6 to 17 Y/O) in sporting activities in the Philippines

Evaluation Criteria

Evaluation Criteria:

  • Investment must have positively supported the sponsorship objectives based on financial support, marketing, brand engagement, promotion and/or sales.
  • Sponsorship amount must be at least $250,000
  • Demonstrate a key moment or achievement, significant to be considered as a Top 10 contender for SPIA Asia 2019
  • Entries are accepted from private or public entities which have directly organized or being part of the delivery of the event which would commonly be described as a “Mass Participation Event” related to running and/or cycling in the Philippines

Entry Criteria:

  • Entry must relate to a Mass Participation Event staged during the SPIA Asia eligibility period with a minimum of 500 participants (Fun Runs /Character Runs/themed Runs are eligible).
  • Must offer a youth and /or adult category; offer an amateur and professional (Prize money) category; must have local and international participation; event must demonstrate sanctioning of a key government entity as well as permission/endorsement/ sanction from the Asia or International Federation
  • The Mass Participation Event must show data, statistics, analytics on spectator /participant numbers, social media engagement, media coverage and others.
  • The event must be clearly structured across registration, safety and security, marketing and PR, brand activation and others.
  • Demonstrate a key moment or achievement, significant to be considered as a Top 10 contender for SPIA Asia 2019
